Position Title: Certified Pharmacy Technician Position Code: 0505
Comp. Band: TBD FLSA: Non-exempt
Department: Pharmacy
Reports To: Director, Pharmacy Position Revised: March 11, 2020

Position Summary: Under Pharmacist supervision prepares and packages a variety of specialized pharmaceuticals as specified in prescription. Supports pharmacy operations in all programs to provide quality pharmaceutical care.

Critical Tasks:

  • Receives and reviews written prescriptions or refill requests in order to determine kind, strength, and dosage.
  • Verifies accuracy of prescriptions while referring discrepancies to Pharmacist as appropriate.
  • Enters new or refill prescription information into computer to provide for accuracy of patient profile and medications.
  • Performs all duties related to pharmacy insurance including adjudication of claims, resolution of rejected claims, and

Prior authorizations.

  • Calculates and converts to proper weights while measuring solutions, medications, and drugs.
  • Prepares, compounds, intravenous solutions, packages, and labels pharmaceuticals.
  • Receives and fills ward and clinic drug supply orders.
  • Computes requested drug and supply amounts.
  • Orders pharmaceuticals and supplies from vendors.
  • Performs physical inventory of all pharmacy items to provide for continuous adequate stock levels in accordance with established policies and security requirements.
  • Repackages items into smaller units as determined by usage and prepares labels to include generic name, manufacturer, control number, and shipment number.
  • Ensures proper cleanup and disposal of any hazardous materials.
  • Cleans and help maintain equipment and work areas.
  • Checks for expired and outdated medications.
  • Maintains department logs of medications.
  • Stocks Omnicell with all non-controlled medications.
  • Performs other job-related activities as requested.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles and best practices for pharmaceuticals.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of available regional, local, and community health service resources and associated standards, programs, and procedures.
  • Protects patient privacy in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and GRHC’s

Code of Ethics.

  • Understands and follows safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above functions. Attends safety education sessions.
  • Maintains professional yet caring demeanor throughout all patient interactions and ensures clinic staff operates similarly.
  • Works productively and cooperatively with a wide array of key executive, leadership, other departments, and vendors.
  • Adheres to GRHC’s service standards and organizational values in interactions with GRHC patients, other customers and fellow employees.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
  • Current and valid pharmacy technician certification required.
  • Current Arizona State Technician License.
  • 6 months of pharmacy experience preferred.
